Applied Research Engineer

Performs and supervises testing and validation of ML models; develops engineering software and machine learning models used to assess mechanical force imposed on the human spine during subject testing; develops engineering software and machine learning models used to assess specific anatomical regions that radiation should be applied during radiotherapy for oncology patients; develops engineering software and machine learning models used to assess a patient’s spine diagnosis and treatment plan from wearable measures; oversees sponsored research projects, project management, and facility set up; analyzes, models, and interprets literature and experimental results utilizing statistical or machine learning models as appropriate; assists in preparation of research compliance documents, IRB submissions, proposals, reports, presentations, and publications; supervises and provides onboarding and training for undergraduate and graduate research assistants; coordinates project progress with SRI faculty and engineering staff; coordinates project progress with oncology faculty and clinicians; operationally maintains software repository; other duties as assigned;


Additional Information:

Qualifications

Required: Master’s Degree in engineering or 4-5 years equivalent experience in biomechanical engineering research; ability to translate, adapt and apply academic and/or practical knowledge to the conduct of engineering research; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; excellent written skills.

Desired: PhD. Preferred in a relevant field of science or engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in an academic research capacity; ability to independently meet research goals,solve problems, and develop scientific ideas.
