The Opportunity:

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Center for Distributed Learning (CDL) is seeking an Applications Programmer IV to work in a collaborative environment serving the needs of digital learning at UCF. Along with seasoned and talented junior developers, the team member will contribute to the overall strategic, standards-based software programming and architecture of interactive projects and applications in support of teaching, learning, and departmental operations.

Responsibilities:  

Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, code, test, debug, integrate, modify, and document applications in support of digital learning.

  • Architect/assist with building the architecture of web applications taking into consideration the front-end, back-end, and database needs of the custom solution at hand while following industry standards and university policies.

  • Assist with analysis and troubleshooting of issues with features in applications, websites, or utility tools in support of digital learning.

  • Provide end-user support in collaboration with senior developers, support staff, via faculty development venues, and co-authoring of technical documents.

  • Assist and interface with the University IT department for infrastructure, cybersecurity, and devops needs of supported web applications and data science solutions.

  • Provide necessary data and reports of different supported web-based solutions at the Center for Distributed Learning.

  • Research, recommend or implement improvements to applications/technologies based on industry standards in support of digital learning.

  • Serve as mentor and coach junior developers.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:  

Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 8 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, engineering management, information systems, or digital media.

  • Experience with all phases of applications programming using front-end, back-end, and database technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, PHP, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.

  • Experience with programming frameworks such as Flask, Django, Rails, Symphony, Express, Backbone, React, Angular, or Laravel.

  • Experience developing and deploying applications on Linux/Unix web servers and cloud infrastructures like AWS or Azure.

  • Experience developing unit tests and continuous integration practices.

  • Experience with all phases of applications development compliant with industry standards and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team.

  • Experience with mentoring, providing documentation, and end-user support.

  • Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to participate in multiple projects effectively.
