Job Summary
Bowdoin College is seeking a highly skilled individual with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, who thrives in a team-oriented environment and is self-motivated, to join our diverse IT Enterprise Systems team. In this role as an Application Programmer, you will play a key role in managing, maintaining, and supporting Bowdoin College’s enterprise systems and data, both on-premises and in the cloud. Our community of clients includes HR, Finance, Bursar, Financial Aid, Registrar (Student Records), Facilities Management, Dining, Residential Life, Development, Communications, Admissions, Student Activities, Outing Club, Athletics, Bookstore, Bowdoin Museum, and more.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Your role as an Applications Programmer will be to maintain and support existing software solutions which our clients have adopted and to implement/install new ones. This includes integrating newly implemented systems with other software on-premises or in the cloud.
  • At the simplest level, you may act as a technical liaison with a cloud vendor, and at the more complex level, you will need to implement integrations requiring an understanding of relational databases, application stacks, testing methodologies, production support, and the development lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation related to application development, testing, and deployment.
  • Ensure that software applications adhere to industry standards, security protocols, and best practices.

  • Salary Range for this position is expected to be: Minimum $85,000 – Maximum $95,000 based on skills and experience.
Education/Skills Requirements
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree or specific equivalent experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work well as part of a team but also be self-motivated.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • The people skills required to work with our non-technical clients and the rest of the IT team.
  • The motivation to learn new technologies and constantly improve processes and tools.
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
Required:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in IT operations, supporting production applications.

Preferred:
  • Familiarity with Windows technologies, including Windows Server and IIS
  • Experience working with relational databases, preferably SQL Server
  • Workday experience: Reporting and/or security administration
  • Experience integrating and supporting production applications
  • Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
Standard Work Days and Hours
  • Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, full-time, year round (1.00 FTE)
  • Occasional evenings and weekend hours as needed.
  • This is an exempt position requiring the time commitment necessary to successfully complete job requirements.
