This position is part of the Web and Application Services group in Information Technology Services. The Web and Application Services group offers a full range of Web site support services to meet the needs of Office of the President departments and systemwide organizations. The Web and Application Services unit provides UCOP departments everything needed to build and manage custom applications, static Web sites, dynamic Web pages and database-driven Web sites, and SharePoint Solutions that allow users to access real-time data and information. The unit works with UCOP customers to evaluate their needs and to propose business solutions for both UCOP local and Systemwide audiences. Systemwide responsibilities include business relationships with Procurement, Educational Partnerships, RPAC, and Graduate Admissions and a host of others.
The Application Developer in ITS's Web and Application Services unit will design, develop, and deploy technical solutions, working independently within a coordinated team effort on the Transcript Evaluation Service (TES). TES is a data tool sponsored by the UCOP Office of Diversity and Engagement that shows a student's progress towards UC/CSU eligibility by providing a snapshot of earned "a-g" course credits and those still needed. It is used by schools, districts, and higher education administrators to assess school-wide or district-wide college-preparedness data and to plan curriculum and K-20 pipeline programs accordingly.
The incumbent applies skills as a seasoned, experienced software professional with a full understanding of industry practices, community standards and relevant policies and procedures to medium-sized projects or portions of large projects with moderate scope and complexity. Tasks include analysis and design, writing code, designing related database tables, performing unit testing, releasing code to development and QA environments, and participating in QA testing for the Transcript Evaluation Service (TES). Duties will also include production support, running and monitoring batch processes, web services, troubleshooting performance problems, and implementing bug fixes. A successful candidate must be creative, flexible and adaptable and have proven success in a similar project environment.
