Required Related Experience

1 yr or currently completing a formal Emergency Medicine residency program.

Required License/Registration/Certification
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) certification and either enrollment or start in Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) post master’s program within the first year of hire or obtain Emergency Nurse Practitioner Certification (ENP-BC) as soon as eligible or Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C)

The physical requirements for this position include walking including pushing, pulling, and/or lifting up to 10lbs and occasional pushing, pulling, and/or lifting objects up to 50lbs.

Job Summary
The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Kentucky is currently seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to function as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
This position will improve the capacity of the clinical practice, provide enhanced monitoring of clinically complex patients, and contribute to excellence in patient care and patient satisfaction. Duties for this position include direct patient care, patient and family education, support to fast track and physician in the triage system, and serving as a critical member of the clinical care team.
This includes obtaining patient health histories, reviewing outside records, and performing complete physical examinations. It also includes documenting findings and noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings. In addition, this position orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests and performs approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based on patients’ clinical status.
Patient education will also be an essential function, and this position will be required to explain the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of therapy to patients, patients’ families, staff, and healthcare learners. In addition, this position will serve as a role model for advanced practice professional providers through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
