Job Summary

We are looking to hire an Anthropology Collections Assistant. This is a summer only position that is for 100 hours total.

Who We Are

The University of Colorado Museum fosters exploration and appreciation of the natural environment and human cultures through research, teaching, and community outreach. We provide academic training for graduate students in Museum and Field Studies; build, conserve, and interpret research collections; and offer exhibits and educational programs for the University and the public.

The Museum is located on the main campus of the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO, and houses the largest natural history collection in the Rocky Mountains. Currently, more than four million objects are categorized into five disciplines: Anthropology, Botany, Entomology, Paleontology, and Zoology. The museum's Anthropology Section manages more than 1.5 million archaeological and ethnographic objects, and nearly 50,000 photographic images relevant to the Anthropology collections. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Assist Anthropology Section with day-to-day collections activities, including but not limited to artifact handling, data entry, assisting researchers, loans and shipping, artifact research, preventive conservation, digitizing collections, mount making, and other duties as assigned.

What You Should Know

This position requires lifting, bending, and kneeling, as well as work on ladders.

What We Can Offer

$30/hour for up to 100 hours.

What We Require

  • Must be enrolled in a Master's Degree in Museum and Field Studies by August 2024.
  • At least two years of part-time experience working with anthropology collections in a university museum setting.

What We Would Like You to Have


  • Proficiency with museum databases.
  • Experience handling anthropological and archaeological collections.
  • Understanding of the unique cultural considerations surrounding anthropological collections.
  • Understanding of NAGPRA practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
