What We Want:

The Division of Research is seeking an Animal Welfare Coordinator who will provide first line response to questions and concerns from investigators, administrators, and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees (IACUCs) and provide key support to the Animal Welfare Office (AWO) to continue accreditation-related activities and coordination of the AWO outreach and education initiative. This position will also provide on-site support to facilitate coordination and/or support of other research compliance functions (i.e. biosafety, human research protections). The preferred candidate will have hold a bachelor’s degree in a field related to the duties of the position and have three years of experience in a research compliance related area, including two years of supervisory or project management experience and experience with IACUC compliance in an academic setting. What You Need to Know

Salary:Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Position Details: The primary work location for this position will be located in Dallas, Texas on the Texas A&M College of Dentistry campus, and will require occasional travel to the Texas A&M campus in College Station.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Three years of experience in a related area such as research compliance

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

  • Knowledge and experience working with database and spreadsheet software

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Experience:

  • Two years of supervisory or project management experience preferred

  • Experience with IACUC compliance in an academic setting

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • Certified Professional IACUC Administrator

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of basic regulatory requirements for research/teaching/testing involving animals

  • Must be detail oriented

  • Ability to deliver quality professional products in a timely manner

  • High ethical standards and a commitment to excellence

  • Ability to cultivate and maintain professional working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds

Responsibilities:

  • Protocol Review - Based on knowledge of institutional guidelines, and federal regulations for animals in research/teaching/testing, consults and advises the faculty, staff, and students in the preparation of protocols. Provides preliminary reviews of protocol including determination of status, in order to give feedback to the customer to improve the product.

  • Animal Welfare Office Resource & Contact - Provides expertise about animals in research/teaching/testing for investigators and committee members related to compliance guidance. Responsible for effective communication and timely responses related to compliance reviews, including issues of non-compliance. Responds to questions regarding the compliance program.

  • Records Management - Provides quality assurance oversight of data entry related to document submissions, reports, and notices. Maintains electronic and paper files ensuring all are up-to-date and complete.

  • Training & Development - Assists supervisor in the development of training materials and conducts regulatory training as needed. Assists supervisor in the development or modification of standard business practices and office processes related to the Animal Welfare Office including the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees.

  • IACUC Support - Provides support for committee meetings by preparing review materials, reports, and other meeting related documents. Reviews and prepares correspondence and minutes based on committee decisions.

  • General Research Compliance Resource & Contact - Provides coordination and administrative assistance in support of research compliance activities related to biosafety and/or human research protections. Performs other duties as assigned.
