Position Title: Animal Technician
JOBSUMMARY:
This is a 12-monthfull-time position with the title of Animal Technician. The position performs daily animal maintenance, research, and extension activities. This position falls within the AIGR Extension and Research Plan of Work and is funded through federal and state appropriations with the supervision of the Langston University Sherman Lewis School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences (LU-SL/SAAS).
Daily Duties
Provide feed and water for goats and farm dogs.
Cleaning of dairy barn alley, waterers, and Callan gate feeders.
Provide standard animal management practices.
Monitor the health and feeding conditions of goats.
Perform miscellaneous farm duties as assigned by the farm manager.
Weekly Duties
Check pre dip, post dip and milking parlor cleaning detergents.
Cleaning and disinfect maternity and nursery facilities.
Cleaning of feed containers and buckets.
Cleaning of main farm compound every week.
Periodical Duties
Assist in breeding, kidding, and feeding of newborn kids.
Perform milking and keep record of daily milk production.
Assist in weaning, ear tagging and related husbandry practices.
Assist in bleeding, weighing, and sample collection.
