Position Highlights

The School of Animal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences (SACBS) is currently seeking a motivated candidate for the position of Animal Technician II (Farm Supervisor) at the Campus Ag Center located at 1650 E. Limberlost Drive in Tucson, AZ. Under direction of the supervising faculty member and the Animal Care Manager, this position helps to plan, manage and oversee the operation of the teaching farm at the Campus Ag Center and the animal research facilities at the Agricultural Research Complex. The persons primary responsibility is for the health and welfare of all livestock.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide animal husbandry and healthcare and supports scientific inquiry through animal research and teaching.
  • Supports all aspects of routine animal husbandry including daily monitoring, recordkeeping, feeding, watering, cleaning, and care.
  • Carry out livestock health and treatment programs and assist with veterinary care.
  • Assists faculty and staff with research projects and laboratory courses.
  • Provide service to the SACBS as needed.
  • Flexibility of schedule. Schedule may include on-call, weekends, after hours and holidays.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diversified group of faculty and students.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of college with course work in Agriculture, Animal sciences or related field and one year of experience in related area; or, three years of experience working on a major farm operation; or, an equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • The selected candidate must become Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) certified upon starting job.
  • Experience in taking biological samples.
  • Experience in Word and Excel.
  • Possession of a current Arizona Type D Driver's License upon employment and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy .
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors of Science and three years of farm animal experience.
  • Experience formulating feed rations.
  • Experience in livestock management software.
  • Experience in teaching courses in area of expertise.
