Job Summary:

The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, several scientific research cores, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.

The RMC provides technical support, access to sophisticated behavioral equipment for mice and rats that can be shared among several investigators, and expertise in the behavioral phenotyping of mouse and rat models of intellectual and developmental disabilities and related disorders of the central nervous system.
This position will operate within the RMC, and be responsible for all aspects of animal husbandry related to the facility's laboratory rodents, which includes identification and monitoring of common veterinary concerns, cage changing on a bi-weekly schedule, providing fresh food and water, sanitation of equipment/spaces associated with rodent housing, stocking supplies, and use of the facility's cloud-based software to document rodent population numbers and health-related information. A desire to provide compassionate care to the facility's laboratory rodents, and the ability to work and communicate effectively within a team are critical characteristics for this position.
