|Description of Work Unit||
This work unit exists to provide anesthesia, sedation and analgesia to all animal patients coming to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) and upcoming new equine hospital, Johnson Family Equine Hospital (JFEH) that will open August 2021. The unit teaches and trains veterinary students, interns and residents as required by the curricula.
The individual in this position will have a clinical appointment dedicated to provide clinical anesthesia, sedation and analgesia service to small, large, exotic animals throughout the VTH, Translational Medicine Institute (TMI) and JFEH.

Degree of Veterinary Medicine recognized by AVMA.
Board eligible for Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia Diploma (DACVAA)

Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia diplomate with board certification (DACVAA).

Provide primary veterinary care and case management for anesthesia service during business hours. The individual will manage VTH, TMI and JFEH cases as part of the anesthesia service team faculty and clinician rotation. The individual will supervise and oversee all anesthetized and sedated cases with expert guidance and advice. The individual will supervise and oversee anesthesia staff (Veterinary Technician Anesthetists), students, interns and residents. The individual in this position will be the specialist expert responsible for case management and success in the VTH, TMI and JFEH as shared duty with other faculty and clinicians. Case management includes small animals, livestock, exotic, equine, large animals and all emergencies presented for anesthesia, sedation or analgesia to VTH, TMI and JFEH.

Teach and train veterinary students, interns and residents as they rotate through the anesthesia clinical service. Veterinary students, interns and residents learn and train veterinary anesthesia knowledge and skills by managing clinical cases. The individual in this position will teach and mentor trainees during business hours and while managing after-hour cases. The individual will provide small group “rounds” clinical teaching and training for trainees rotating through the anesthesia service. The individual in this position will assess and evaluate students, interns and residents as part of their training curricula.
