HJF is seeking an Anatomical Instructor (Part-Time) to support the Surgery Department located at Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to USU. This role will usually be scheduled for up to 10 hours per week.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide advanced instruction in the field of Human Anatomy and how this subject relates to fields of medicine and surgery. This individual will serve as a part-time Anatomical Instructor in the Department of Surgery and is responsible for anatomical teaching assignments.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides instruction to students in all Gross Anatomy and Neuroanatomy laboratories by preparing materials required for the laboratories. In addition, this individual will need to demonstrate discovery of required structures (dissection lab), lead post-laboratory review sessions that highlight the relevant structures and pathways in gross anatomy and neuroanatomy, assist in organizing and teaching small groups, conduct pre-exam review sessions, prepare test materials, and administering and grading tests. (90%)
  • Assists with creating anatomical course material, including lab Articulates, lab review PowerPoints, lectures, anatomical videos, and exam questions. (10%)
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Incumbent must bring to this position a minimum of a Master’s degree in Anatomy plus substantial experience in medical school teaching including cadaver prosecution and microdissection, and anatomical teaching.
    • They should have scientific publications in critically reviewed scientific journals as appropriate to anatomical variation and/or anatomical teaching research.
    • Position Requires: excellent oral and written communication skills; use of modern electronic technologies; proper use of grammar, spelling, syntax, and business correspondence formats; outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively convey complex ideas and concepts; possess the ability to resolve conflicts equitably and foster productive working relationships; ability to effectively transfer knowledge to students and be comfortable working in a variety of teaching settings.
    • The incumbent must be exceptionally well organized, detail-oriented, and can work independently on tasks as they are assigned. This position requires the highest of ethical standards.
    • The successful candidate must currently hold an Adjunct Instructor level position or must be academically qualified for a faculty appointment at the Adjunct Instructor level in accordance with USUHS academic guidelines.
    • The following experience/knowledge is highly desirable: ability to mentor, provide advice, and assist medical with research projects; teaching experience in an integrated medical curriculum, and background in online teaching and use of learning management systems such as SAKAI and Canvas.

    Minimum Education: Master’s degree required.

    Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: 9-10 year of experience required.

    Work Environment:100% onsite.

    Background/Security:Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).
