The Anatomic Pathology Technologist 1 provides services in the Surgical Pathology Gross Room at OSUWMC East Hospital, which is a laboratory within the Division of Surgical Pathology, Department of Pathology. The position duties include, but are not limited to: receiving specimens from surgical suites and various clinic locations; sectioning specimens as needed and placing them in proper fixative; triaging specimens for ancillary testing; confirming patient identity and labeling requirements; accessioning specimens using Epic Beaker software ensuring proper billing codes; preparing specimens and slides for transport via courier; facilitating problem resolution for unacceptable specimens; grossing and performing microtomy on frozen section specimens; staining and coverslipping frozen section slides; receiving slides and distributing them to the appropriate pathologist; filing of slides on-site or returning them to their originating facility; answering laboratory phone and performing customer service duties; managing inventory and ordering supplies; scheduling equipment maintenance; performing daily and weekly decontamination tasks; ensuring quality control measures are performed. This position reports to the Gross Room Manager and has direct supervision from the Director of Pathology at OSU East. Coverage is from Monday to Friday, approximately 8:30am to 5:00pm.


Additional Information:

A Bachelor’s Degree to include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination required. Training or experience as a tissue prosector desired. Requires successful completion of a background check. Selected candidate may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
