UW Advancement has an outstanding opportunity for an Analytics Engineer. 

The Analytics Engineer is responsible for supporting all University Advancement initiatives that involve using analytics to improve business practices, with an emphasis on developing data infrastructure and tools. This position requires a deep understanding of data storage, cleaning, and conforming techniques coupled with a strong knowledge of data analysis processes and toolsets. A passion for innovative problem-solving is critical for success in this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Implementation

• Develop dedicated analytics environment within the wider technical framework; work with partners to identify primary and exhaust data from institutional and third-party systems;
• Develop pipelines to make that data available to the analytics environment; in collaboration with analysts, data scientists, and business partners, operationalize and deploy the output of analytics efforts for the benefit of the entire enterprise; manage and direct technical vendors and data suppliers as appropriate.

Program Management

• Take on leadership for specific technical efforts; understand the business problems the efforts are intended to address, develop a framework for addressing the problems, assign work to self and others on the team to implement the solutions, and communicate status and constraints clearly to leadership.

Relationship Management

• Work with technical and non-technical stakeholders throughout the enterprise to develop data specifications, articulate complex technical constraints in plain language, and seek to increase the overall level of data literacy wherever possible.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in related field and three years of experience as a data engineer or similar role

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Demonstrated ability to utilize industry-standard tools to develop data ETL pipelines and manipulate data in a SQL environment
• Experience working in a role that supports data science and analytics, or basic familiarity with statistical analysis concepts and methods such as: measures of central tendency, measures of variance, and regression models
• Experience working with big data in a variety of formats (e.g. structured, unstructured, text, blob data, etc.), especially as related to web, email, social media, or mobile interactions and with other digital marketing platforms

Deep understanding of at least one of the following technology sets:
• Data ETL (such as SSIS, Informatica, Scribe, BIML, or others)
• Managing data interactions via APIs
• Data Manipulation (such as SQL, Python, R, or others)
• Machine learning (such as TensorFlow, NLTK, Keras, Gensim, Spacy, or others)
• Distributed or cloud computing (such as Azure, AWS, Hapdoop, Spark, or others)

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

• Master’s Degree in Information Management, Computer Science, or discipline with related skills
• Experience working with or in cross-functional teams
• Knowledge of alumni relations, development, or advancement principles
• Knowledge of donor CRM database software

WORKING CONDITIONS

• The workspace is a cubicle environment which may result in ambient noise at conversational volume and occasional visual distractions.
