What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Research Technologist 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Research Technologist 1 ($77,300 - $126,000)
The High Explosives Science and Technology (Q-5) group is looking for an adept individual in the field of analytical chemistry. You will work closely with a diverse group of scientists, engineers, technologists, and technicians on projects and programs for both internal and external customers.
High Explosive Science & Technology (Q-5) Group, serves the Laboratory and nation by providing the knowledge base in high explosives (HE) testing for the Nuclear Weapons Program and other national security areas. The group specializes in a broad array of energetic materials science including development (synthesis and formulation) and testing of novel explosives, pilot plant production of explosive materials, advanced manufacturing of explosives, analytical chemistry of explosives and explosives ingredients, detonation performance testing, and special security projects.
Research Technologist 2 ($85,400 - $139,600)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the candidate should have extensive experience with analytical instrumentation (see desired qualifications) which may include maintenance and/or method development. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate technical leadership in an area of expertise.

Additional Analytical Chemical Methods
Extensive experience with one or more analytical techniques: chromatography, SEM, DSC, BET, VTS, titration, gravimetric composition, Raman, FTIR.. Demonstrated experience developing techniques/methods, and completes work in innovative and effective ways.
Data Analysis
In addition to performing experiments and data reporting, demonstrated experience analyzing data, and the outcomes of these efforts.
Business Operations
Greater administrative responsibilities which includes working with vendors to update service contracts, maintaining instruments, maintaining work safety documents
Education/Experience for Research Technologist 1: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience for Research Technologist 2: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Preferred degrees: Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Materials Science or related degree.
Desired Qualifications:
Specifically for Research Technologist 1: Knowledge of and experience with one or more of the following analytical techniques: chromatography, SEM, DSC, BET, VTS, titration, gravimetric composition, Raman, FTIR.
Familiarity and experience with performing technical work within a quality assurance and quality control program.
Experience supporting or performing laboratory activities for research & development.
Experience performing laboratory equipment or instrument specification, procurement, assembly, modification, maintenance, and repair.
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2-Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements
for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.
Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
