ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Global and National Security Institute is an initiative designed to further place the state of Florida at the forefront of addressing critical issues facing the nation in sectors such as defense, economic and political security, health and human security, infrastructure and environmental security.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Planning Specialist will work as an action officer to plan, coordinate, and supervise the execution of designated activities within the Institute. Conducts studies and reviews past and current policies, procedures, and processes with the intent of maximizing organizational growth and profitability.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops plans for a broad variety of Institute activities, to include conferences, outreach opportunities, and meetings, and supervises the execution of Institute activities
Reviews and analyzes capacity utilization, operating cost containment, and overall organizational effectiveness. Reports on findings and makes recommendations
Conducts research in the national security domain for the Institute and prepares analysis of findings. Ensures Institute activities are coordinated with other elements of the University as necessary; Supports the activities of the Communications and Congressional Assistants when necessary
Assists in the development of a long-term five-year strategic plan for the Institute that provides concrete objectives and end states; Assists in developing the intermediate objectives necessary for attainment of the strategic objectives as outlined in the plan
Assists in developing actionable, quantifiable short- mid- and long-term metrics that will enable continuing assessments of the Institute
Other duties as assigned
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of related experience -OR- a combination of equivalent education and experience.
Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter.
Performs work under minimal supervision.
Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
Exceptional analytical thinking, mathematical, and accounting skills. Statistical knowledge. Detail oriented.
