Position Summary
Provides high level, advanced medical care to patients under defined medical control policies. Provides direct patient care and education for patients receiving treatments, exams, etc in a medical office setting according to established procedures. Acts as a primary clinic resource to physician and mid-level providers and directs patient flow for overall operations.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Utilizes full scope of practice in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating a plan of care for patients in the ambulatory setting.
  • Provides direct patient care including administering medication, performing/assisting in procedures and monitoring patient status. Includes phlebotomy, EKG’s and verification of medications.
  • Counsels and educates patients on follow-up care, referrals to specialists and/or primary care.
  • Ensures patient has understanding of disease and symptom management and effectively answers questions from patient to assure full understanding of full discharge instructions.
  • Documents patient statistics into EMR, keeps clear and accurate notes. Ensures timely documentation of all clinical care provided.
  • Manages patient related work queues, reports results to patient, manages prescription refill requests under the guidance of an attending or medical director.
  • Maintains required skill set as determined by state guidelines and the medical director.
  • Annually meets competency requirements established by the school and medical director.
  • Schedules patients for appointments, rooms patients, takes patient histories, vitals and prepares room for patient assessment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Practice Paramedic: five years of experience as a paramedic within a certified EMS system.
  • Prior work experience in an APP/community physician environment.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Customer service excellence skills.
  • Ability to evaluate and manage difficult situations and make decisions quickly.
  • Proficiency in paramedicine and ability to present and participate in case management review.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • Graduate of an accredited paramedicine program.
  • Minimum of three years experience in an ambulatory, outpatient or emergency medical response service.
  • Certified as a MO Emergency Paramedic.
  • Certifications from American Heart Association for Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Pediatric Life Support, Basic Trauma Life Support.
  • May require valid driver’s license and a safe driving record, depending on work location.


Salary Range
$21.89 - $32.87 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
