Job Summary
The Department of Chemistry has an immediate opening for an Alumni Relations Director who will be responsible for communications and outreach to our alumni, making donor connections through alumni communications and our faculty, promoting continued involvement and support of Chemistry programs, scholarships, and events.
Responsibilities
1.  In coordination with the Development Committee, provides strategic direction to promote support from Chemistry alumni and other friends of the department.
  
2.  Establishes fund-raising goals, tracks and reports progress toward meeting these goals.
3.  Responsible for donor prospect identification and engagement. 
4.  Seeks expertise of the College when a donor with high giving potential arises, in order to discuss strategy and donor cultivation.
5.  Develops and implements outreach programs and materials to engage alumni as supporters and donors for the department.
6.  With help from the College of Science Events Manager, plans, coordinates, and attends special departmental events.
7.  Develops the content and design of on-line and print media promotional materials.
8.  Conducts donor and prospect research, making contacts on behalf of the department.
9.  Acts as the point of contact for individuals or companies who donate to the department.
10. Responsible for drafting correspondence with major donors and prospects.
11. Maintains effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the public.
12.  Represents the Department of Chemistry on the College of Science Advancement team.
 
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus four years related or equivalency required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. 
This position is not responsible for providing patient care.
 
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Preferences
·         In order to communicate authentically with chemistry alumni, faculty and students, a background in chemistry, preferably a bachelor’s or advanced degree, is desirable.
·         Strong communications skills with demonstrated writing ability.
·         Relevant organizational and interpersonal skills in supervisory roles, teaching, and/or customer relations. 
.         Experience in alumni relations in a non-profit institution preferred. 
.         Experience coordinating volunteers, supervising staff, budgeting and creating publications also preferred.
