Southwest Virginia Community College (Southwest) offers career-training programs innumerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, Southwest offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university.
Southwest also has associate’s degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
We are looking for an individual to fill the role of Alumni & Housing Coordinator for our campus.
This individual will work to create conditions within the residential communities that allow a diverse student population to learn and live in a comfortable and safe environment. The A&HC must employ a student-centered approach, the ability to identify and address student needs, facilities and security operations knowledge, a desire to collaborate, strategic problem-solving ability, sound judgment, administrative management skills, and a timely response to problems that arise. The A&HC mediates roommate conflicts, manages safety expectations in the units (e.g. fire drills, safety inspections), and responds to residence life emergencies.
In addition, the A&HC will initiate ongoing interactions with students as well as connect students with campus and community resources. Maintain a presence and visibility on campus, including participation in events. Oversees and maintains alumni relations including contacts through social media and traditional methods and will be responsible for all alumni communication and coordination of alumni events. The AH&C will work with deans/program heads, facilities staff, campus police, and student affairs staff to create effective outreach to connect alumni to Southwest Virginia Community College.
This position will report directly to the VP of Institutional Advancement.
This position requires a 12-month probationary period for both new hires and transfers.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Two years of professional experience in some combination of the following: student affairs, student life, residence life/housing, or student conduct.
  • Demonstrated desire to positively influence the lives of students and create a positive community that is conducive to academic success.
  • Proven excellence in organizational skills, sensitivity for a diverse student population, and an ability to work in collaboration with students, faculty, and staff.
  • The ability to understand and adhere to policies and procedures, use basic math skills, and exercise effective verbal and written communication skills with residents and guests.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with management and coworkers.
