Job Description

Purpose:

This position is a member of the College of Engineering's communications staff and is assigned to the Office of Alumni and Donor Relations. The position is responsible for the preparation of alumni-and-donor-related communications; developing and implementing donor stewardship strategies and recognition; and supporting the coordination of alumni-and-donor-related events for the college. This position plays a crucial role in fostering positive relationships with alumni and donors, ultimately contributing to the overall success of fundraising efforts and the enhancement of the organization's reputation.

Responsibilities:

  • Communications:
    • Write and articles for the website announcing new donor gifts
    • Write social media posts and promotional materials in collaboration with Engineering Communications
    • Promote alumni and donor engagement initiatives
    • Maintain content for development and related web pages
  • Stewardship:
    • Distribute recognition pieces, thank-you notes, acknowledgments and annual reports from student recipients to donors of the College of Engineering in collaboration with the Engineering Development Office
    • Assist with high-profile donor recognition events in collaboration with the special events team
    • Assist with updates to the donor database
  • Donor Correspondence:
    • Maintain donor relationships and promote interest in supporting the College of Engineering
    • Foster ongoing communications (correspondence, newsletters, proposals, informational and promotional materials, gift announcements, etc.)
    • Provide excellent customer service by displaying a positive and respectful demeanor and responding to inquiries and requests in a timely and professional manner
  • Alumni Engagement:
    • Assist with planning alumni events, reunions, and networking opportunities
    • Serve as an ambassador for the College of Engineering
  • Advisory Council:
    • Assist with logistical plans and coordination of vendors for the college-level semi-annual advisory council meetings
  • Special Programs and Services:
    • Assist with planned programs and services, such as the Engineering Walk Brick Campaign and annual fundraising initiatives such as Giving Tuesday
  • Other duties as assigned

What we need:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • No experience.

What is helpful:

  • Seeking candidates with either professional experience in communications or a degree in communications.
  • Seeking strong writing and editing skills as well as a solid understanding of communication theory, strategy and storytelling.
  • Experience in alumni relations, donor stewardship, or fundraising

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Good organization and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Enthusiasm for the organization's mission and goals
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently with a set of guidelines
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for events
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and online engagement strategies
  • Basic graphic design and content creation skills in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Knowledge of best practices in alumni and donor relations in the nonprofit sector
