Job Summary

The Anatomy Learning Center:

The UCSF Anatomy Learning Center is open at all hours (except when closed for examinations) to enrolled healthcare professional students (medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy). This unique human cadaver teaching environment can be partitioned into two separate spaces to accommodate both embalmed and fresh tissue dissections, with a state-of-the-art custom engineered ventilation system that changes air up to 36 times per hour. 

Dental Anatomy Laboratory:

The predoctoral dental curriculum is a four-year program with approximately 60 students in each cohort. First-year dental students participate in a cadaveric dissection-based anatomy course within their first quarter. The Dental Anatomy Laboratory is a separate anatomy laboratory from the ALC on the Parnassus campus. This 1,964 square foot facility houses 23 down-draft tables with excellent ventilation, a storage room for prosections, and an adjoining office. The Lab Coordinator will be responsible for simultaneously maintaining the ALC and the Dental Anatomy Laboratory during this course (scheduled for the Fall Quarter, September through December each year). Responsibilities include: preparing the laboratory for student learning, receiving donor delivery and coordinating cremation, ordering laboratory supplies, managing waste fluid labels and pick up, consolidating biohazard waste and managing pick up, clean-up after each laboratory, ensuring proper tools are available for specific laboratories, managing laundry service, and create tool kits for the incoming cohort.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for anatomy laboratory maintenance, including set-up, cleaning, and stewardship of embalmed cadavers, skulls, brains, hemiheads, pelvises, joints, limbs, and human skeletons.
  • Works closely with ALC Manager and UCSF Willed Body Program (WBP) to procure embalmed and fresh specimens, maintains specimen viability, ensures proper storage and labeling, and manages inventory.
  • Coordinates receipt and cremation of specimens, assists with bisection in the dental anatomy laboratory, and participates in dissecting to generate prosections.
  • Assists with implementation of professional health educational activities, consulting with teaching faculty on required resources for anatomy classes and setting up accordingly.
  • Assists with practical anatomy exams and coordinates educational activities such as simulation and virtual reality sessions.
  • Ensures proper disposal of biohazardous waste, sterilizes tools and teaching areas, and helps maintain anatomy laboratory BSL-2 level certifications.
  • Supports logistics and coordination for medical resident training courses and health professions anatomy classes.

The hourly compensation range for this role is

 $21.69 - 55.16

. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate, position requirements, AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

  • 1 or more years of relevant work experience in an anatomy or similar laboratory.
