Summary of Duties

The Air Quality Technician 1 provides general, preventive, and mechanical maintenance to assigned Student Life buildings and operations, which may include Campus Dining Operations; performs skilled installation and repair of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating, building mechanical and electrical equipment, domestic water and drainage systems; works on pneumatic and electric/electronic controls; repairs and replaces air compressors, pumps, belts, bearings, fans, motors and filters; repairs steam traps, components and related equipment; installs and repairs system piping; repairs commercial kitchen equipment; inspects and maintains life safety systems: inspects and performs preventive maintenance; may serve as functional crew leader; must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding and operate personnel lifts; generally works first shift 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; subject to 24-hour emergency call-ins. Operates departmental vehicles.

Required Qualifications

7th grade; 300 hours of training in refrigeration, heating and air-conditioning equipment (or three months of experience) or equivalent.

Desired Qualifications

Two or more years of experience in chiller operation and maintenance; EPA universal certification; ability to interpret a variety of written, oral, and picture instructions, and apply mechanical principles to solve practical problems; ability to climb ladders and scaffolding intermittently; ability to work independently to diagnose and correct issues with HVAC, refrigeration, and electrical equipment; hands-on experience working with Direct Digital Controls and building automation systems.

Target Salary $14.87 - $23.32 Hourly
