Job Summary
Facilities Management is accepting applications for an Air Condition/Heating Mechanic 3. Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in maintaining air conditioning systems. Essential functions include:
  • Work performed in maintaining HVAC equipment, HVAC controls, and refrigeration systems.
  • Repairs and/or replaces compressors and components as necessary.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates, and replaces pneumatic controls, electric controls, and DDC control systems.
  • Maintains boiler control systems.
  • Computer Literacy: Outlook, Windows, Microsoft programs, and other related programs.
  • The position will be required to maintain the refrigerant inventory.
  • Occasional overtime and ability to work 2nd and 3rd shifts as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Must be able to work any shift or schedule. Overtime will be required as necessary. Facilities employees may be required to report at their regularly scheduled times during emergency closures or during inclement weather to perform essential functions including snow removal.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to maintain and repair centrifugal and reciprocating chillers and cooling devices.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and drawings
  • Ability to plan and organize one’s own work
  • Knowledge of central chilled water systems and associated distribution equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of steam distribution systems preferred.
  • Ability to perform the following physical demands, with or without reasonable accommodations, which may include but not limited to: standing for long periods of time; frequently bending, kneeling, twisting, lifting; climbing ladders, and performing strenuous physical work on a daily basis.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED 
  • Must possess or acquire within the first six months of employment the EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.
  • Valid Driver License 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in working with variable volume air conditioning systems, HVAC certification, electrician license and controls experience preferred.
  • Vocational certification and two years on the job experience or five years on the job experience as a journeyman or similar experience preferred.
Salary 20.87 an hour
