Agriculture Education Program Leader

General Description of the Position

This is a 12-month non-tenure track position in the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Delaware State University.  The position involves a 50% appointment in Agri-science Education/FFA and 50% academic responsibilities.  The assignment could change depending on the needs of the Department.


Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The candidate must possess the following skills and abilities to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations:  

  • Three or more years teaching and FFA experience required or a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education or related field with five or more years teaching and FFA experience.
  • Demonstrated evidence of leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with youth and adults.

  • Essential Functions
    The following are the functions essential to performing this job: 
  • Serve as the Executive Secretary of the FFA and provide leadership and coordination for FFA programs in school-based Agri-science education programs in Delaware.
  • Facilitate the development of a premier FFA program by providing state-wide leadership in the following areas:  Delaware FFA programs and services; scholarship programs; individual member awards programs; state, regional and national FFA conventions/conferences; leadership and personal development conferences; membership development, recruitment and retention; Delaware State FFA officer activities; and budget and financial management for the Delaware FFA Association.
  • Serve as a connecting link between the Department of Education, Middle, Secondary and Post-Secondary Schools, FFA Alumni, the Delaware FFA Association and the Delaware State University’s Departments of Education and Agriculture and Natural Resources.
  • Interact with 4-H and other youth programs.
  • Serve as a member of the Agri-science Education team with additional responsibilities in the academic and extension programs.

  • Other Functions
    Individuals in this job may be assigned one or more of the following tasks on a rotating or as-needed basis.
  • Responsible for teaching one course per year for the Department and any other duties as assigned.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.


  • Qualification Standards

    Master’s Degree in Agricultural Education or related field.
