This Position will generate, collect, analyze, and transfer research data by managing these efforts, plus daily laboratory, greenhouse, and field related research activities. The successful candidate will interact with project leaders, the AREC farm manage, county extension agents, and grower cooperators to initiate experiments, finalize research protocols, and integrate research projects into the total research program of the Center. This position is housed at the Southern Piedmont Agricultural Research and Extension Center, located in Blackstone,Virginia.
BS Degree in environmental science, biology or agriculture, or equivalent combination of training and experience in agricultural research and/or production agriculture; Knowledge of agricultural research techniques and procedures; Experience in production agriculture research that demonstrates an appreciation of and concern for precision, thoroughness, timeliness, and total disclosure in research activities; Experience managing and training subordinates and peers; Knowledge of and abilities in field and laboratory research sufficient to project sound judgment into a research setting; Ability and skill in operating agricultural and research equipment and vehicles; Ability to identify agricultural diseases and pests; Ability to use computer software to manage and extend research results; Ability to work outside in adverse weather conditions; Ability to occasionally work beyond normal schedule as work load demands; Ability to occasionally travel within the state to perform necessary tasks at offsite tests.
MS Degree in applicable discipline; Private and commercial (VDACS category 10) pesticide applicators license.
