Job Description

The Agricultural Research Worker, under supervision, will have responsibility for assisting with field and field lab operations for the peanut and guar field breeding program.  This involves participating in day-to-day operation of field trials and breeding nurseries, including planting and maintenance of  field plots, collecting field data and samples, harvesting and taking post-harvest data, 


Responsibilities:

- Preparation and packaging of seed for planting

- Planting, irrigating, and cultivating field plots

- Assisting with taking field observations for field plots, such as stand, disease incidence, and response to drought stress

- Harvesting field plots and taking post-harvest measurements such as yield, maturity, and shellout

- Working with PI, field technician, postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students

- Working with growers and experiment station personnel including other AgriLife centers as well as TTU and ARS personnel


Education and Experience:
-High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-One year of related experience.

- Experience in farm operations

- Operation of farm machinery


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Knowledge of agricultural field research or laboratory work.
-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others in achieving project goals.

- Work in a breeding program or other small plot program

- Familiarity with basic office software

- Mechanical aptitude

- Attention to detail and ability to keep accurate records

Other Requirements:

- Good command of the English language for assisting with writing reports.

- Ability to lift 40 lb sacks

- Ability to travel to farms in Texas and adjacent states, including occasional overnight stays
