Job Description
The purpose of this position is to deliver and conduct, on an as needed part-time basis, training courses as a part of the Homeland Security National Training Program cooperative agreement. The Wage Instructor I will participate in the development, planning and delivery of Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) courses. This position will follow approved curriculum course outlines and timelines and perform all course exercises as explained in the Instructor Guides. In addition, this position, as a team member, may actively participate in the updating and revising of a course in the curriculum development process as well as review new instructional materials as requested. The Instructor will also maintain records, reports and documentation of activities during each course delivery. Other duties will include classroom and topic preparation, delivery of classes including demonstrating with teaching aids, completing required administrative paperwork and maintaining technical competence and skills. The work will also involve traveling to remote locations, providing classroom and field instruction. This position reports to the Training Manager.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
Four years’ experience in large-scale disaster search and rescue operations or emergency management (Fire, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Law Enforcement, Military, US&R)
One year of experience in adult education and/or training and a background in training concepts and programs
Required Licenses/Certifications:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
Eight or more years of experience in large-scale disaster search and rescue or emergency management (Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, Military, US&R)
Five or more years of experience in adult education and/or training and a background in training concepts and programs
Experience in urban large-scale disaster rescue operations
Experience in disaster preparedness, response and/or recovery
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens and heat
Ability to support training delivery for up to 8-10 hours/day (standing)
Ability to communicate orally and in writing
Ability to regularly use a computer/keyboard
Physical conditioning consistent with setting up classrooms, movement of training equipment and instructional materials up to 50 lbs.
Ability to climb, crawl, stoop, reach and manipulate small equipment components during instruction
Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
Ability to communicate clearly in English
Excellent presentation skills
Ability to instruct and provide effective demonstration of required topics
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Working knowledge of office software and instructional programs
Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups
Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
Knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles.
Ability to use a variety of media to present course material.
Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies
Ability to orally comprehend and express information and use inductive and deductive reasoning
Ability to facilitate and adapt course and course content
Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff, groups of various sizes
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

Notifications:
This position is security-sensitive.
This position requires 100% travel.
This position may require a valid U.S. passport to deliver course instruction in US territories.
This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
This position allows telecommuting per TEEX guidelines.
This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.
This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract. Therefore, this position is contingent upon continuation of funding from these grants and/or contracts, as well as satisfactory job performance.
All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:
Provides Training Course Delivery – 75%:
Delivers Wide Area Search and When Disaster Strikes courses within the specified Wide Area Search program
Ensures all course/training materials are prepared before class and secured at the completion of class
Maintains subject matter expertise on topics of instruction
Presents lessons in a positive manner using adult learning principles
Ensures all aspects of lessons and activities are covered
Participates as a Subject Matter Expert as needed
Assist in course development and review as needed
Follows approved curriculum course outline
Performs all course exercises as explained in the TEEX Instructor Guide
Ensures all participants have achieved terminal objectives of the course
Completes Training Documentation - 20%:
Collects forms at the start of class and ensures students sign the attendance roster
Maintains appropriate student activity documentation
Ensures course evaluations are collected and returned as instructed by program manager
Completes all required course documents in a timely manner
Performs Fiscal Responsibility - 5%:
Completes required administrative work to include time/effort paperwork and travel submissions within the required time frame
Completes all required TAMUS training within the requested due dates
Other Duties:
Maintains a professional appearance and appropriate attire
Represents TEEX in a professional and positive manner
Performs additional work duties as assigned
