Are you passionate about continuing and celebrating the rich heritage and traditions of South Dakota State University (SDSU)? We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a University Program Advisor specializing in University Traditions. At SDSU, we take pride in our history, culture, and the unique traditions that define our institution’s spirit. As a University Program Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in nurturing and advancing our time-honored customs, fostering a sense of community pride, and engaging students, faculty, staff, and alumni in meaningful experiences that uphold our university’s legacy. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota and is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The purpose of this position is to provide advisement, coordination, and work direction for student led university program traditions (Hobo Day and State-A-Thon).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree completed by May 2024.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • At least one year of experience in event planning or coordinating student activities/student programs or other related experience. Undergraduate experience acceptable.
  • Valid driver’s license, or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Education, Hospitality, Communication, or related field of study.
  • Experience advising college students.
  • Experience supervising college students.
  • Demonstrated experience with entertainment contract negotiation.
  • Demonstrated experience with policy interpretation and implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience leading training efforts.
  • Demonstrated experience with SDSU’s State-A-Thon program, or Dance Marathon program
  • Demonstrated experience with SDSU’s Hobo Day events, or homecoming celebrations generally.
  • Demonstrated experience with new student orientation programs.
  • Demonstrated use of technology in promotion of events.
