Job Description

This position is located in Idaho Falls. However, it requires travel to all Eastern Idaho counties, serving a caseload of 300 participants. The successful candidate will establish, coordinate and conduct activities to inform low-income, first-generation adult learners and veterans about available financial aid and post-secondary education opportunities; to assist them in selecting, applying for and gaining financial assistance in enrolling in programs of post-secondary education.

Key Responsibilities

Outreach and Recruitment (30% time spent ~12 hours per week)

  • Responsible for active recruitment of 300 participants and securing appropriate documentation for their eligibility (responsible for ensuring that two-thirds of students are both 1st generation to college and meet federal low-income guidelines).
  • Responsible for ensuring that 40 of the participants meet eligibility as veterans or National Guard service members Represent the programs at events in Southeastern and Eastern Idaho to promote the mission and services of TRIO Conduct outreach and establish partnerships with community organizations and other stakeholders.

Student Service Delivery and Academic Planning (50% time spent ~ 20 hours per week direct participant service delivery)

  • Provide academic assistance to participants, such as college class selection, study skills, goal setting, time management, academic success, career interest inventories, financial literacy, and technology in the Idaho Falls and Pocatello area.
  • Develop and maintain working and trusting relationships with participants while ensuring program services are provided as outlined in the federal grant.
  • Provide information to participants regarding post-secondary opportunities including admissions, financial aid (FAFSA), Military Education Benefits if appropriate, scholarship searches, ACT/SAT/COMPASS testing, course selection, Internet college searches, college transfers, GED, ESL, college preparation courses, vocation training, etc.

Documentation (20% time spent ~ 8 hours per week)

  • Maintaining accurate and confidential records for a caseload of 300 participants (including veteran status, college and career plans, admissions, transcripts, FAFSA completion, and proof of post-secondary enrollment).
  • Maintain participant files with all necessary physical documentation to ensure compliance with federal requirements Utilize databases and other online systems to enter, retrieve and/or research information and maintain student documentation.
  • Participating in staff meetings, in-service training, committees and conferences to better understand and maintain a working knowledge of educational programs, policies, requirements, student services, advising and the building of a professional network.
  • Assist with all required reports, particularly the Annual Performance Review for the Federal Department of Education.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in working with underrepresented and/or adult populations.
  • Demonstrated experience in customer services, interpersonal skills, and communication with adult learners.
  • Must have access to and use of own transportation.
  • Must be willing to work night and weekend appointments/events for recruitment of pre-college adult community members.
  • Valid driver's license & access to reliable transportation is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior military service or Military connected.
  • Knowledge of target area.
  • Knowledge of recruitment strategies for limited-income and first-generation adult participants.
  • Experience with state or federal record keeping.
  • Demonstrate experience and knowledge of Federal TRIO programs.
  • Having overcome barriers similar to those of project participants.
  • Demonstrated ability in mentoring/tutoring.

Additional Information

Salary will be $42,508 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
