Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Director of College of Business (COB) Center for Student Success and/or the direct observation of an experienced COB advisor, further develops effective advising techniques and advises undergraduate students regarding COB major and university academic requirements, policies, and procedures. This position provides critical support for programs and initiatives designed to strengthen the academic success and retention of COB students.


Key Responsibilities
  • Advises COB undergraduate students about major and university academic requirements. 
  • Refers students to appropriate department and college advisors and campus student support offices and services.
  • Under direct supervision and/or observation, the academic advisor further develops effective advising techniques.
  • Serves as a referral source for COB undergraduates for such units as The Learning Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Career Development Center, and other academic and student service offices on campus, as appropriate.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Proven experience working with students, parents, faculty, and staff. Demonstrates proficiency in computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.). Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, professional demeanor and ability to be a team player. Exhibits strong oral and written communication skills. Exhibits excellent organizational skills, prioritizes responsibilities, and meets project deadlines. Exhibits strong critical and creative thinking skills, sound decision making and objectivity.

 Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, is desired. Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."


Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field required.

Compensation

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,764 - $4,604 per month

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Time Base

Full-time temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
