Job Summary 
This position is required to work in collaboration with and under the direct and indirect supervision of a physician, utilizing mutual approved written protocols, providing primary health care to university students and eligible members of the university community in the form of primary prevention, health education, assessment, treatment of health problems in accordance with the and rules and regulations established by the State of Mississippi.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Provides primary care to patients who may be acutely and chronically-ill, provides care to patients who are well, per protocol with the MS State Board of Medical Licensure or the MS State Board of Nursing: Performing routine histories and physical examinations, Initiating appropriate laboratory tests, x-rays, and diagnostic studies, Evaluating findings; developing a treatment plan based on protocol, Seeking consultation with the collaborative physician, or other services (such as mental health, physical therapy) when the situation warrants; may involve working with the patient's family, Arranging referrals as necessary, Providing patient education with an emphasis on measures to restore and maintain health, Performing office procedures, Performing periodic (wellness) physicals; wellness counseling, Maintaining patient records for documentation, administrative and research purposes and reimbursement in a timely fashion, Responsible for entering data, documenting patient information into the EHR (Pyramed) in a timely fashion and maintaining patient confidentiality.Staying current with updates to the MIS/EHR system.
  • Participates in education or preceptorship for Physician Assistant (P.A.) or Nurse Practitioner students or new P.A./Nurse Practitioner staff members and maintains professional affiliations. Provides in-service programs for staff nurses and other personnel as requested.  Assists the Office of Health Promotion with on campus Health Education programming activities as requested.
  • Participates in staff meetings, cooperates with peers and others, and maintains competency through continuing education.Participates in Quality Improvement functions. Participates in the clinic's research efforts as requested.
  • Provides consultative, advisory, or educational services to the greater community when requested.
  • Receives annual evaluation, based on the goals set in conjunction with the direct supervisor the previous year.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications  
    Completion of a graduate degree from the accredited educational program, Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or APRN program.
    Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination and must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for continuing medical education (CME) and re-certification for physician assistants. APRN’s should demonstrate successful certification and active licensure as an FNP in the State of Mississippi.
    A minimum of two full years of work experience as a certified physician assistant or APRN.  Two years of related work experience as a licensed P.A. or APRN with all ages of patients, both pediatric and adult preferred.
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
     
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. 
    • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. 
    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts as generally expected in a medical practice.
    • Proficient in use of electronic health record technology and basic office software.  
    • Superior clinic decision making skills.
    • Time management skills.
    • Excellent history taking skills.
    • Sound ICD10 and CPT knowledge.
    • Comprehensive physical examination skills.

    Preferred Qualifications 
    DEA Certificate preferred.
