What you need to know

Salary:Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

In accordance with the federal contractor vaccination mandate , specific facilities at The Texas A&M System may be considered a covered contractor workplace with covered contractor employees. Required Education:

  • Successful completion of an accredited educational program for Physician Assistants; or

  • Successful completion of an approved advanced practice nursing educational program at or beyond the master’s degree level

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Licensed in the State of Texas, or eligible to be licensed, as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (Nurse Practitioner)

  • Board certified or eligible to be board certified

  • Candidate must be licensed/board certified prior to start date

  • Licensure/certification must be maintained for continued employment

  • Ability to obtain BLS certification and DEA registration within 6 months of employment

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to apply modern techniques of medicine

  • Ability to use and manage an electronic medical records system

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Time management capabilities and prioritization skills

Other Requirements or Factors:

  • Ability to exert moderate force and lift or move moderately heavy objects

  • This is a security-sensitive position

  • The individual in this position is required to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by HIPAA regulations

  • The individual is required to handle PHI in accordance with the A&M System policy and is further required to complete HIPAA training as a condition of employment, within a reasonable time frame after the individual’s employment, and on an as-needed basis thereafter

Preferred Experience:

  • 2 years of related experience in Women’s Heath or Family Medicine

  • Experience in a hospital, ambulatory clinic, or college health setting

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of ICD 10 and CPT billing and coding principles and procedures

Responsibilities:

  • Provision of Care - Provides primary health care to students, which includes medical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications or treatments, counseling or education regarding health maintenance and disease/injury prevention, and promotion of healthy lifestyles. Recognizes the need for consultation and/or referral for illness/injury outside the scope of practice/expertise for an advanced nurse practitioner or physician assistant.

  • EMR and Compliance - Completes legible, accurate, and appropriate documentation of patients’ encounters in medical records in a timely manner. Acts in accordance with all relevant licensing boards, local, state and federal laws regulating nurse practitioners or physician assistants. Participates in continuing medical education and in-service activities as appropriate.

  • Administrative - Serves on clinical committees as assigned. Participates in accreditation activities. Assists in preparation of educational materials. Performs other duties as assigned.
