Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – Hematology & Oncology (Inpatient Day Shift)

The Medical College of Wisconsin’sDepartment of Medicine – Division of Hematology and Oncology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support the Hematology/Oncology and BMT Inpatient services located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Froedtert Hospital, the Center for Advanced Care, and other Inpatient Units.

Our exceptionally talented team of MD and PhD faculty, advanced practice providers, nurses, research, and administrative staff are focused on patient centered clinical care and research in the pursuit of better therapies for cancer and blood disorders. Our expertise extends to all aspects of medical oncology including treatment of solid tumors, hematologic (blood) cancers, bone marrow transplantation and cellular therapies. We also strive to provide excellent care for non-cancerous blood diseases, including bleeding and clotting disorders.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

The Ideal Candidate will be an experienced APP or Clinician with a background in HemOnc/BMT patients within an inpatient or hospital setting wanting to be part of a thriving and very collaborative academic practice at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW).

In this role you will,

Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and psychosocial status.
• Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information
• Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
• Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
• Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
• Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
• Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
• Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
• Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
• Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.

Preferred Schedule: 10 hours shifts during the week, Monday to Friday, 8:00am-6:00pm, with expected weekend rotations every 4th week, 7:00am-5:00pm.

Preferred Experience:

• Five-year experience as a Physician Assistant/ Nurse Practitioner with at least 1-2 years in a clinic or hospital environment working with chemotherapy or hematology/oncology/BMT patients OR within Critical Care, Urgent Care, ED, or ICU environments
• Internal medicine knowledge and skills preferred
• Previous RN experience and/or New Grad with Strong interest in HemOnc/BMT are encouraged to apply

Minimum Education:

Advanced Practice Nurse: Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies
