Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Intern to pair a post-graduate Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with our surgical team gaining clinical hours and educational experience in the operating room, inpatient, and ambulatory settings. The position may be eligible to transition to a full-time APP at sole discretion of UCP and the Department of Otolaryngology. This position entails the APP having an interest in furthering the tripartite mission of the region’s only academic center (outstanding clinical care, teaching, and research).  

The APP intern will learn how to evaluate and treat pediatric and adult patients in a tertiary Otolaryngology practice inclusive of multiple subspecialties, including otology/ neurology, skull base surgery, head and neck oncology with complex reconstruction, neurotology, facial plastic surgery, laryngology, airway disorders and rhinology. 

The APP intern will have access to journal clubs, multidisciplinary meetings, temporal bone lab, and other facilities of the academic health system.  A willingness and interest to work in a teaching environment is a must.
 


Essential Functions
  • Perform appropriate history and physical for complex, acute, critical, and chronically ill patients. 
  • Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests. 
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of interventions. 
  • Maintaining accurate medical records.  
  • Collaborate with other providers and members of the health care team in delivery of care and making appropriate referrals when needed. 
  • Educating patients and families about medical conditions and treatment plans. 
  • Facilitates staff, patient, and family decision making using evidence-based practice 
  • Participating in research and development projects. 
     

Minimum Requirements

Graduation from a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program accredited by the appropriate agencies. Certification as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner by the appropriate boards. Must be licensed in the State of Ohio
