Summary

The Division of Nephrology is currently seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to support its Inpatient Hemodialysis services at University Hospital in Ann Arbor

Responsibilities*
  • Managing patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis 
  • Placing dialysis catheters 
  • Completion of history and physical examinations; order appropriate diagnostic studies, synthesize information and make informed clinical decisions; develop appropriate care plans; and be responsive to patient and family preferences.
  • Contribute to clinical education of Nephrology fellows, nurses, and staff
  • Deliver communication at an expert level with patients, families, and care team. 
  • Professional collaboration in a multidisciplinary team. 
  • Effective prioritization of assignments and management through a busy work environment.
  • Function effectively both independently and as a team member.
  • Collaborate clinical care ideas across multiple patient care services and to communicate assertively as a patient advocate.
  • Execute professional and personal administrative responsibilities, adhere to ethical and humane principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to execute continuous quality improvement projects
  • Execute electronic medical record documentation and electronic order entry.

Required Qualifications*

NP:

  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
  • Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). 
  • Current DEA registration required
  • Current AHA approved BLS certification
  • 2 years of APP experience practicing in nephrology

PA:

  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required.
  • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
  • Current DEA registration required
  • Current AHA approved BLS certification
  • 2 years of APP experience practicing in nephrology

Desired Qualifications*
  • 3 years of recent experience (within the last 5 years) as an APP practicing in either internal medicine or nephrology
  • Experience placing central lines or acute hemodialysis catheters 
  • Experience managing patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis
  • Demonstrated ability to complete history and physical examinations; order appropriate diagnostic studies, synthesize information and make informed clinical decisions; develop appropriate care plans; and be responsive to patient and family preferences.
  • Experience as participant in continuous quality improvement.
  • EPIC/MiChart experience

Work Schedule

Hours/Week:  40
Day Shift, 8-hour shifts; weekdays, weekends, and holiday coverage.
Location: University Hospital - Ann Arbor


Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
