Neonatal/Pediatric ECMO Specialist, Night shift (7P-7A)
Occ Summary

Perform, evaluate and coordinated iagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures as defined in the Respirat ory Care Services scope of clinical practice. Work performed in accordan ce with physician orders. Defined duties are performed in neonatal, pedi atric and adult patient populations in intermediate, intensive and emerg ency care areas.


Work Performed

Perform all the duti es and responsibilities of the Respiratory Care Practitioner Advanced. I nsertion of radial arterial catheters. Administer Nitric Oxide Gas thera py. Administer Heliox gas therapy. Certified in adult and pediatric osci llating ventilation. Administer Carbon Dioxide gas therapy. Certified in Extracorporeal Life Support ( ECLS) (Specific to pediatric and neonatal team).Facilitate emergency airwayprocedure. Implement clinical care pr otocols. Develop patient care plans for physician intensive care rounds. Provide orientation, education and training for Duke residents in assig ned units. Provide orientation, education and training for Level I and L evel II respiratory therapists. Provide patient and therapeutic assessme nts to assure optimal medical decisions. Review and revise policy, proce dures and practice guidelines. Assist in the evaluation of products/equi pment. Maintain environment and supply inventory of assigned unit. Funct ion as alternate supervisor.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge necessary to make appropriate clinical decisions and interaction relative to the specific age of a patient. Skills validation /certification of competencies for the duties and responsibilities requi red for a Level I and Level II respiratory therapist. Skills validation / certifications of competencies for the duties and responsibilities of this level. Must maintain annual skill maintenance requirements. Must ma intain annual safety/compliance requirements. Must maintain North Caroli na annual license requirements for CEUs. Attendance at Just -in-Time sup ervisory training. Work involves contact with patients of all ages, family members, physicians, nursing, and all other members of the health car e team. Work is performed in all areas of Duke Hospital Work may require lifting or pushing in excess of 30pounds.Required to carry emergency ai rway bag weighing approximately20 pounds Work requires walking, running , climbing and bending. Minimum Qualifications
Education

Completion of a two yearAMA approved respiratory care program (Associates Degree or the equivalent), with a Bachelor Degree preferred.


Experience

Two years' experience in clinical respiratory therapy, including one year experience in intensive care respiratory.


Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

North Carolina State Licensure Registry ( RRT) by the National Association for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Certification in Basic Life Support ( BLS) Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support ( ACLS) Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRPS) is assigned to neonatal ICU
