Job Summary:
This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Student Health Services (SHS) and provides on-site primary care and case management services including in-depth health assessment and treatment for common health problems of students. The incumbent will manage complex cases and serve as a strong and knowledgeable liaison between other University student support services and coordinating the efforts of the University case manager, psychological counselors, office of disability services, dean of students, and Athletics departments (and others)– all in support of student wellbeing and success.
Clinical decision making for identified health problems is done in consultation with a backup physician following jointly agreed upon written practice protocols. The incumbent provides on-going follow-up for health problems, including formal and informal health teaching and counseling about health issues with students. The Adult Nurse Practitioner will also provide emergency care to students and University personnel. Practice is in accordance with approved nursing practice as established by the NJ Board for Nursing.
Required Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree required with a major in nursing in a program designed to deliver primary health care.
2. R.N. with current NJ. license and current Nurse Practitioner license required.
3. Minimum of 5 years previous work experience required as a Nurse Practitioner.
4. Minimum of 3 years of previous case management experience required in a hospital, community health clinic or other related setting.
5. Minimum of 3 years overseeing clinical staff and supervising clinical tasks as a Nurse Practitioner including RN’s, social workers and case managers.
6. Experience required developing and facilitating health education programs.
7. Current New Jersey Prescriptive Authority license.
8. Current certificate in a related specialty area or eligibility for certification, preferred.
9. Current CPR certificate or willing to obtain.
10. Experience working with university or college students preferred.
11. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
