Director, TRIO Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science

The Director of the Upward Bound/Upward Bound Math and Science Program provides leadership for the federally funded TRIO Programs which is designed to provide opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. In addition, the Director has the responsibility for the development of program policy, overall administration of the project including budget and project compliance with federal and university regulations and policies. Duties include developing and executing program goals/objectives and implementation; short and long-range planning, program evaluation, recruitment and employment of project staff; preparation of reports to the Department of Education; staff training and professional development; supervision and evaluation; expenditure of program funds; and serving as a liaison to the university and target communities.

Pay:

• $65,000 - $70,000

Schedule:

• Monday - Friday and some Weekends

• Recruit, hire, evaluate and supervise all Upward Bound/Upward Bound Math and Science staff and monitor their performance
• Oversee all staff (professional, clerical, student workers, part-time, and temporary staff)
• Participate in professional growth and attend university meetings and serve on committees as well as plan staff meetings
• Complete and submit all reports required by US Department of Education and Purdue University Northwest, including the Annual Performance Report
• Implement and monitor overall operation of the Upward Bound Program including Purdue and US Department Education regulations and procedures to ensure program compliance
• Monitor budget expenditures and ensure fiscal compliance
• Maintain professional relationships with all target schools' personnel, including recruiting and presentation activities and foster positive relationships with the university community
• Recruits and helps to select UB/UBMS participants by making presentations to eighth grade students in targeted schools, contacting parents, interviewing applicants, and ranking applicants based on eligibility
• Monitor progress toward accomplishment of program objectives and oversee the documentation of all aspects of Program activity
• Assure that all Programs and participant records are maintained
• Oversee the academic achievement and progress of students
• Provide a strategic plan for the recruitment of participants, staff development, and fiscal compliance to meet project objectives
• Establish a programming calendar for the academic year, including Saturday school and Summer Academy

• Master’s degree, required
• Equivalent combination of experience & education may be considered

• Three years of administrative experience with schools or programs for special populations
• Training and background to implement and facilitate the achievement of the objectives of the project
• Experience developing budgets and monitoring expenditures

• Knowledge of academic advising services and curriculum development; college, career, financial aid, and economic literacy services and programming for low-income and first generation college students; budget and fiscal compliance; federal, state, local, rules and regulations
• Ability to collect and analyze data and conduct internal project evaluations (formative and summative)
• Effectively communicate orally and in writing
• Provide professional leadership and establish effective working relationships, internally and externally
• Knowledge of barriers to postsecondary education faced by low-income and potential first generation college students in the target Northwest Indiana area; ability to work Saturdays, evenings and travel
• Knowledge of rules/regulations by NCAA and conference
• Ensure compliance relative to duties of the position
• Must have a valid driver's license
• Must be able to use personal vehicle to drive on behalf of the University
