I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:
To spark new thinking, just add friction. Your unique perspective and experiences can make you successful in your career.
At the George Washington University College of Professional Studies, you’ll collaborate with a diverse group of experts from across disciplines and backgrounds, who will challenge you to rethink assumptions, test your ideas, and look at ways to make the greatest impact. Here, you’ll learn how to use your skills to make an impact that ripples outward through industries and communities, elevating your career trajectory and connecting you to corners of the world you never thought possible.
To support our innovative programs, the College of Professional Studies (CPS) seeks an outstanding individual to join our team as the Admissions Officer. The Admissions Officer reports to the Associate Director, Admissions.
The Admissions Officer is a critical team member who communicates with prospective students, assesses applications and processes decisions, collaborates with CPS Recruiters, is responsible for data management, and supports day-to-day operations. As the main point of contact for applicants, the Admissions Officer will provide the highest quality customer service by resolving routine and complex inquiries, counseling prospective students on admission requirements, accurately processing applications, and may make initial recommendations about qualifications. The Admissions Officer may identify opportunities for improvement and make recommendations for process changes. This position also maintains admissions schedules and works closely with the Admissions and Recruiting team. This position often participates in or hosts information sessions, assists in planning admissions events and may host interview days, often representing the Admissions function.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
  • Respond to applicants’ questions and concerns, including following up on incomplete or inaccurate applications and processing applications for admission.
  • Explain admissions requirements and guidelines to applicants and other university offices.
  • Assess applicants’ academic transcripts, qualifications, and other required documents to determine eligibility for admission and to ensure university and program guidelines are maintained.
  • Communicate with other university offices, including financial aid, registrar, student services, deans, marketing, recruitment, and international services, to ensure coordinated and comprehensive services for applicants and admitted students.
  • Research and resolve unusual or complex admissions issues. Consult with the Associate Director, Admissions, the Director of Admissions, and other university officials as needed.
  • Advise international applicants through the I-20 application process and prepare documents for review.
  • Process and communicate admissions decisions and recommendations.
  • Process applications, admissions information, and other related data in Banner and TargetX.
  • Assist with registration events to help students successfully matriculate into their programs.
  • Provide insights and feedback on events and application/enrollment trends when requested by various stakeholders (e.g., Program Directors, Recruiters, Directors, and Associate Deans).
  • Perform transfer evaluations.

Perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
This is a hybrid position with some days remote and some days in the office. This position is located at the GW Alexandria Education Center in Alexandria, VA.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
