SUMMARY:

The Admissions Counselor II will be responsible for raising awareness of Texas A&M University-Commerce to increase student enrollment across the Dallas Fort Worth area, while serving as the primary liaison to administrators, teachers, non-profit organizations, parents and students. The Admissions Counselor II resides locally in the Dallas Fort Worth area and represents Texas A&M University-Commerce at college fairs and high school/community college recruitment visits in the designated city and surrounding areas.  The Admissions Counselor II will counsel prospective students and their families regarding admission requirements, academic programs, financial aid and scholarships, residence halls, student organizations, and activities.  The Admissions Counselor II makes formal presentations, plans activities, events, and responds to written, phone, email, and in-person inquiries.  The Admissions Counselor II will manage all aspects of recruitment and outreach by managing and building strong relationships with schools, Independent School Districts, and community stakeholders and perform data collection and analysis.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead engagement with various Independent School Districts (ISD) superintendents, principals and high school counselors for the purpose of sharing awareness for outreach programs designed to build a school district level pipeline for graduating seniors to pursue post-secondary study with A&M-Commerce.
  • Pursue MOU agreements and other opportunities to specifically promote enrollment and scholarship opportunities to high school and transfer students, parents, school counselors, community partners and targeted ISDs and Two-Year & Community Colleges.
  • Collaborate with the Enrollment Management team to develop digital and marketing communications designed to promote outreach and community engagement initiatives.
  • Make formal admission presentations, as well as plan, coordinate, and attend required programmatic events for students, parents and community partners.
  • Contributes to the achievement of enrollment and recruitment goals and objectives by attending college fairs and high school/community college visits and providing TAMUC college transition counseling in areas including, but not limited to: financial aid, admission policy, college application process, and transfer.
  • Regularly contact assigned students by phone, email, text, and individual meetings to provide student enrollment support and troubleshoot enrollment barriers.
  • Contribute to transition strategies with district and community college staff to ensure students’ experience a seamless transition to TAMUC.
  • Participates in educational guidance activities and conferences with students and officials from high schools, community colleges and community organizations (e.g. local counselor conferences, Mane Event Preview Day, Counselor Updates, Transfer Workshops, etc.).
  • Communicates competently to all students, school and college counselors/advisors information about the Texas Uniform Core Curriculum and the Texas Common Course Numbering System and their respective roles in articulation and course equivalencies.
  • Schedules and conducts recruitment visits and special campus events for all partners and prospective students; as well as collaborates with university faculty, staff and students to build and share knowledge to enhance outreach and recruitment efforts.
  • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses and conferences, and attending training and/or courses as required by the Vice President for Enrollment Management.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the Division of  Enrollment Management and the University by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: One (1) year experience with University academic programs, facilities, student activities and organizations, and at least two years of work experience is required in college admissions at a regionally accredited institution or college admission advising experience at the high school level. Excellent oral and written communication skills and sensitivity to issues related to the retention and recruitment of a diverse student body are required. Good organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work independently are required.  Familiarity with office applications software, preferably Microsoft Office products, is required. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop positive relationships with prospective students and their families.
  • Ability to: Live and reside locally to the Dallas Fort Worth area. Multitask and work cooperatively with others. Present information clearly and concisely. Communicate information individually, in small groups or in formal large group settings. Travel to high school and community college day and night programs and other visits throughout Texas is required. Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.  Travel between Dallas Fort Worth area and the campus of A&M-Commerce for work related assignments.
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: Valid driver’s license.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

Three (3) or more years of experience in an education-focused non-profit (including community-based organizations or institutions of higher education). Experience utilizing innovative technology such as a CRM solution is preferred. Familiarity with database systems such as Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft or some other type of database product utilized by institutions of higher learning is preferred.
