Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor is responsible for recruiting, admitting, and enrolling a diverse and talented student body. Within this respective role, the chosen candidate will have general admission duties, while being mindful of developing and implementing targeted outreach to a specified population.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Director of Admissions develop, plan, and manage all aspects of undergraduate recruitment within a designated territory. This will include building relationships with key high school counselors and coordinating with targeted community organizations and school districts.
  • Counsel prospective students face-to-face, by phone, text and email regarding their application status. Maintaining a strong commitment to interacting respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds is key.
  • Preserve a general understanding of each academic School as it relates to the University's academic majors and help prospective and accepted students navigate important deadlines such as financial aid and enrollment to the University.
  • Process applications and update records to ensure accurate and proper student status within the University's systems. This is to include the Admissions CRM and Student Information Systems.
  • Be familiar with all University policies and procedures with key campus partners such as Financial Aid, Registrar, and Student Flourishing.
  • Enthusiastically and professionally represent the University at all on-campus and off-campus recruitment events including (but not limited to) information sessions, Preview and Open Houses, Scholarship and Admitted Student Days.
  • Deliver and facilitate admission presentations to large and small groups. This would also include off-campus presentations at high schools or community-based organizations.  
  • Use data and current trends to strategically manage assigned territory.
  • Collaborate with Admissions staff and with campus personnel to maintain a congenial working environment.
  • Perform all duties as needed or assigned by the Director of Admissions or senior leadership team.


Requirements:

Education, Skillset and Additional Qualifications:

The successful candidate will demonstrate the highest level of customer service and collaboration with preference to individuals who have experience in collegiate recruitment, academic advising or student services. As a member of the Undergraduate Admissions team, working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment will be a key component of the position, while maintaining the ability to multi-task. The Admission Counselor will display a strong commitment to understanding the importance of teamwork, but recognize that many tasks require autonomy and independent thinking. Preference will be given to those who have demonstrated a commitment to working with students who identify as first-generation, diverse backgrounds or underrepresented populations. Further preference given to any applicant that has experience working with client relation management tools (Slate) or student information systems (Banner), although not required. A bachelor's degree is required. Excellent communication skills, strong organizational and analytical skills are also essential. This position will also require work outside the traditional business hours (8:00AM to 4:30PM) including some weekends. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and ability to travel.
