Position Summary

The School of Teacher Education (STE) has approximately 19 tenured/tenure track faculty, approximately 80 lecturers, and approximately 500 students in teaching credential programs and master’s programs.

The unit is responsible for teacher preparation through state-licensed teaching credential programs, and graduate programs in elementary education, secondary education, and various other educational disciplines. In addition, department faculty members teach in doctoral programs in the College of Education.

The department has close collaborations with numerous schools and school districts, and many programs and courses are held off-campus where our collaborative partners are located.

Serves as Front Desk Receptionist responsible for the efficient coordination of the STE. Selected administrative and clerical duties include: Communicating department and program information to interested parties; Processing purchase requisitions, expenses, and reimbursements; Arranging travel; Coordinating department events; Creating documents, reports, forms, and other materials; Assisting Department Coordinator in monitoring department budgets. Updating department website; Ordering, organizing and maintaining inventory supplies; Coordinating facilities and space processes and moves; Serving as department telephone, key issue, facilities services, and technology coordinator; Uploading faculty syllabi to the Library Collection; Conducting STE elections via Qualtrics; Tracking STE technology equipment; Assisting with RTP process. Serves as primary support for credential and Master’s programs. Selected administrative and clerical duties include: Scheduling of credential applicant interviews; Assigning block placements; Sending registration materials to new admits and continuing students; Tracking students through credential programs and communicating with A & R Committees about retention issues; Surveying guide teachers via Qualtrics as well as initiating and processing final guide teacher remuneration reports; Supporting MA advisors in giving the comprehensive exam.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite. These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Specialized Skills Required

  • Competence in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience using Google Docs and Forms
 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Qualtrics online survey software.
  • Experience working as a front desk receptionist.
  • Experience working in a higher education or public sector setting.
  • Experience coordinating travel arrangements.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,505 per month. 

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,505 - $5,508 per month. 

SDSU Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus.  An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university’s secure online health portal prior to beginning work.  Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU’s COVID-19 testing program.
