Occupational Summary

The Arts Administration Fellow will provide support for Duke Arts projects and events with a focus on campus and community engagement and student engagement.

In addition to engagement support, the Arts Administration Fellow will gain experience in the areas of marketing and communications, programming, engagement, development, and business. The Arts Administration Fellow will report directly to the Student Engagement Manager. This position has a one-year term (may be renewed for one additional year) and is limited to recent Duke graduates.

Work Performed

Manage specific engagement projects as assigned by Manager of Campus and Community Initiatives, range from one-off educational events with visiting artists (such as master classes, public conversations, and class visits) to multi-day residencies engaging a broad swath of campus and community partners.

Support the Artist Services Coordinator with scheduling and logistical support for Duke Arts performances and events on and off-campus.

Attend community and campus engagement events and provide coverage of the events in the form of photographs, video, social media, and written articles as needed in coordination with the Marketing and Communications Team.

Promote and attend student engagement events (such as, but not limited to the Orientation Week Block Party, DEMAN weekend, Duke Arts Soirée, Duke Arts Awards Ceremony), coordinating with outside vendors and front of house staff from the Venues and Production Team.

Perform general office duties in support of the Duke Arts team as needed.

Required Qualifications

Education and Training: Candidates must have received a bachelor’s or master’s degree from Duke University within the past three years. Major field is open, but demonstrated interest in the arts, public programs or community engagement is preferred.

Experience: Evidence of experience in event management or leadership in student organizations. Experience in the arts and working in an office environment with competing priorities preferred.

Schedule: This position requires schedule flexibility with the ability to work occasional nights and weekends.

Required Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to excel as an independent and flexible worker who easily adapts to evolving needs. Diplomatic interpersonal skills appropriate to working with undergraduate students, faculty, administrators, alumni and visiting artists. Experience with photographic and video documentation and writing copy is preferred.

Education

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree program.
