Occupational Summary:

The Duke Center for International Development offers a number of short-term, professional development programs annually to mid-career professionals from developing and transitional countries.  The office of Executive Education is responsible for the administration of the programs. The Temporary Program Assistant for DCID supports a variety of administrative tasks which are necessary to run the programs. 

A detailed description of functional areas and tasks follows:

Assist program director and departmental staff with the administration of the Project Appraisal and Risk Management (PARM) open enrollment executive education program.  The job deals almost exclusively with an international clientele; international and intercultural experience is a plus. An individual in this position must have a strong background in tax policy, risk management and project appraisal . This position favors individuals who are energetic, flexible, and able to transition quickly between roles as needed.

Specific Tasks:

  • Classroom Support – Support program faculty and participants with the administration of the program including preparing content (as needed), supporting students with problem sets, reviewing problem sets, etc. Support program participants with application and critical analysis of Excel Models and Crystal Ball.
  • Administrative – Assist in a wide variety of administrative items including utilizing various Microsoft Office programs, filing, copying, assisting with classroom set-up as necessary (applicants must be able to lift 35+ lbs. comfortably), etc.
  • Customer Service/Participant Acclimation – Assist participants (under the direction of program director) with a wide variety of requests and issues related to the program.
  • Perform other incidental duties to the work described herein.

Education/Summary:

Work requires a background in financial and economic analysis of projects. Experience with risk analysis and risk management (or more generally project appraisal techniques) usually acquired through completion of the PARM program or other related coursework on project appraisal, risk management, public finance, is necessary. Additionally, strong communications, analytical, and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree program.

Experience:

Prior experience with Crystal Ball software or similar Excel based programs preferred.

Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience

Hours: Varied schedule, 35+ hours per week, must be able to work some nights and weekends

Start Date: June 15, 2023 (end date is flexible)

Pay: $20-$25 per hour depending on experience and qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

None required beyond education. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
