About Ecology and Evolutionary Biology

The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (E&EB) has a distinguished faculty of 32 whose interests range from population and community ecology to biogeochemistry and ecosystems to evolutionary biology and genetics.  The Department, part of both the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the College of Arts and Sciences, has a broad but unified mission in teaching and research: broad in that the interests of the faculty span many levels of organization encompassing genes, genotypes, phenotypes, populations, communities, and ecosystems; and unified in that each of these levels interacts with all of the others. Detailed appreciation of the processes operating at all levels of organization is fundamental to ecological or evolutionary understanding.

As an Administrative Course Coordinator, you'll wear multiple hats, each essential to the smooth operation of our academic offerings. Your primary role will involve providing top-notch administrative, clerical, and reception support to all members of our vibrant department. Whether you're updating course catalogs, coordinating classroom schedules, or ensuring our faculty and students have everything they need to succeed, your work will be at the heart of our educational mission.

Key Responsibilities:

Academic Backbone : Be a key player as the Course Coordinator for both Undergraduate and Graduate Courses, serving as the Assistant to the Director of Undergraduate Studies Committee and the Curriculum Task Force. You'll be the keystone behind a comprehensive database for over 60 active courses, ensuring everything from course rosters to final grade submissions is handled flawlessly.

Faculty Support : Provide critical support to our faculty, handling everything from copying and scanning course materials to coordinating textbook orders and field trips. Your efforts will ensure our faculty can focus on what they do best: teaching and inspiring our students.

Departmental Dynamo : Beyond courses, you'll be the go-to for general departmental needs, maintaining essential databases, updating our website, maintaining office supplies, and assisting with key administrative duties. Your versatility will make you an indispensable part of our team.

Colloquium Champion : Support our colloquium committee by preparing seminar schedules, coordinating guest speaker travel arrangements, coordinating snacks, and generally ensuring these events are a highlight of our academic calendar.

Front Office Ambassador : Be the welcoming face of our department, managing front office reception with a blend of professionalism and warmth. From greeting visitors to handling inquiries, you'll set the tone for our department's friendly and efficient atmosphere.

What We Need

  • High School diploma with 2-4 years’ relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and related professional experience. 
  • Must have proven strong skills with PC and experience using Microsoft Office, including Outlook (email and calendar), Excel, and Word. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new software.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and demonstrated ability to serve and communicate with a broad range of people and to work under pressure with many interruptions. 
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills are critical. 
  • Effective problem solving, creativity, sound judgment in accomplishing tasks that are urgent; and the ability to work well within a team of professionals are required. 
  • Must be able to adapt to changing priorities, situations, and demands. 
  • Demonstrated history of reliability and the ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Must be flexible and receptive to new ideas and approaches. 
  • Accuracy in spelling and grammar is required.

  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

  • Experience with the following software: Workday, Kuali, SmartSheets, PeopleSoft, Drupal, and Agile Fleet.
