Who We Are

The Department of Atmospheric Sciences at Texas A&M University, researches the physical processes that influence and determine our climate as well as providing insight into how and why the climate changes. This is an enormous topic and covers spatial scales from atmospheric chemistry, aerosol particles, air pollution, cloud particles, with radii of microns, to large-scale atmospheric waves, with length scales of thousands of kilometers. Topics studied in the department include the physics of convection, climate variability, feedback physics, climate sensitivity, climate extremes, and regional modeling.  Variability and predictability of climate on seasonal to millennial timescales, coupled ocean-atmosphere interaction, large-scale dynamics of the atmosphere and the oceans.

The Lead Office Assistant will be responsible for all duties related to the front office, such as assisting the business staff with various duties, answering the main line, scheduling of rooms, assisting the faculty with various needs, maintains equipment and supply inventory and assist with meetings, seminars and special events. What You Need to Know

Rate: $12.69 an hour

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of experience in general office or clerical work.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Keyboarding skills.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Associate's degree.

  • More than three years of experience in general office or clerical work.

Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with faculty, staff and students in a educational setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Receptionist/Customer Service: Greet all visitors to the department, answering the main phone line and directing calls to appropriate personnel. Evaluate incoming mail, correspondence and inquires, and assist in problem solving for office activities. Assist Business Coordinator with maintaining and ordering office supplies.

  • Travel and Special Events: Assist departmental staff with planning of meetings, seminars and other special events. This may include planning travel arrangements, scheduling rooms, and serving as a host or greeter for the event. Provide assistance to faculty by preparing flyers, preparing itineraries and other related functions.

  • Personnel Files and HR: Assist the Business Administrator with confidential records and files, scanning personnel files into Laserfiche, updating list for department, such as phone and contact list for faculty,staff and students each semester. Perform other duties as assigned.
