Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine is recruiting for an Administrative Assistant 4 for the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology. This position provides direct administrative support to the Department Chair and is responsible for all aspects of administration, research and financial viability of the department while acting as primary assistant for the department chair and other faculty members. Other duties include but are not limited to managing the class schedules, departments accounts, budgets, gifts, and grants, coordinating department projects and events; coordinating recruitment searches; preparing accreditation; developing and maintaining the department procedures and programs; assisting with graduation and examination coordination; and other duties as assigned. This position monitors all fiscal and HR activity and collaborates with the department Chair and Sr. Director of Administration and Finance to inform them of business opportunities, areas needing their attention, preparation of department budget and the fiscal status and monitoring of the department.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: providing administrative/program support to professional staff and management; performing secretarial duties in support of a manager; coordinating communications between the manager, staff, and program clientele; supervision of subordinate staff; researching information from internal and external sources; OR

  • One (1) year of experience as an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with financial management (business finance, grants, gifts), leadership and project management, and/or strong computer literacy skills (MS Office) are encouraged to apply.

A valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Compensation Grade

Grade 29 (Entry, Step 01 $21.64/hr. – Step 03 $23.49/hr.)

In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.

Department Information

The Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology is located within the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine. Three-degree programs are offered: Bachelor of Science, Master of Science in speech pathology, and Doctor of Philosophy in speech pathology.  There are eleven faculty in language, speech, and hearing.
