ROLE of the POSITION

This position is the assistant to the Chair of the Biomedical Sciences Department and provides secretarial, clerical, and administrative support for the entire department as well as other departments within the School of Dental Medicine upon request. This position is responsible for coordinating and organizing meetings, travel, and events for Biomedical Sciences Department Faculty and arranging for meals, room reservations, and all other logistics for meetings and seminars. This position is responsible for purchasing, ordering, and stocking supplies and equipment for the Biomedical Sciences Department using a P-card. This position compiles and prepares detailed item analysis reports for tests and longitudinal student performance assessments. This position uploads and inputs data for online learning management platforms for individual Biomedical Science courses. This position manages travel authorizations and reimbursement requests for faculty and staff, candidates, and visiting faculty. This position manages the biomedical faculty semester schedules and arranges coverage to accommodate for leave, vacation, travel, etc.

PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT/COLLEGE

UNLV School of Dental Medicine, the only accredited dental school in Nevada, opened its doors during fall 202 offering a doctor of dental medicine degree to an initial cohort of 75 students. Today, the school receives more than 1,800 applications for an available 82 seats within its pre-doctoral program; offers eight academic degree and advanced education certificate programs; conducts biomedical research within 4,000 square feet of laboratory space; hosts continuing education classes to industry professionals; leads multiple community outreach programs; and has more than 70,000 patient visits per year.

The School of Dental Medicine's education programs are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and have maintained that status since 2002.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas:  maintenance of complex records and files; public/customer relations including explaining detailed policies, regulations and requirements; preparation and processing of financial and statistical documents such as payroll, travel, claims and budgeting forms; and assisting staff and management with projects and activities; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

SALARY

Grade 27, Step 1, salary $37,166.40. "Step" means the number assigned by the Division of Human Resource Management to identify a specific rate of pay within a grade. Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
