ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT II, Chemistry, to assist the academic administrator with administration of the department's undergraduate and graduate programs; and work with faculty, teaching assistants (TAs), and MIT administration on academic issues and concerns.  Responsibilities include working with undergraduate students and supervising tutors and exam proctors; coordinating course schedule planning; liaising with faculty and the Schedules Office for exams; overseeing the advanced standing and alternative exams; coordinating the tutoring program for undergraduate subjects; administering changes and updates to the MIT Course Catalog and online subject listing; managing the grades submission and registration and subject evaluation processes; coordinating classroom planning; arranging classroom technical support and monitoring classroom technologies; creating and maintaining course management sites, online discussion platforms, and online learning management systems; assisting with TA training and supporting the activities of the TAs; updating the department website each semester to reflect class offerings, relevant deadlines, and other course-related information; coordinating the first-year pre-orientation program with other staff in the Chemistry Education Office; setting up and process weekly payroll for graduate graders, tutors, and proctors; coordinating wellness programs; and assisting with special projects and events as needed.  


Job Requirements
REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; three years’ professional work experience, preferably in an academic setting; excellent organizational and oral and written communication skills; experience with computer applications such as QuickBase and Excel; discretion and tact; ability to multitask; interest in training and working with students; and ability to interact with a variety of people, including faculty, students, staff, and potential students. PREFERRED:  college degree; MIT experience, particularly with its undergraduate and graduate student processes; and WordPress experience.  Job #21205-5
