Job Description

The Leadership, Diplomacy and National Security (LDNS) Lab at Arizona State University seeks a collaborative and resourceful Social Media Specialist to manage executive-level calendars, coordinate travel and expense reports, and plan/create high-quality content and campaigns across social media platforms. The specialist identifies, develops and implements creative ways to promote the LDNS Lab and expand engagement with key audiences on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube. The Social Media Specialist is responsible for planning a social media calendar, producing posts and other creative assets, scheduling content, tracking and analyzing data, and reporting on performance. This role aims to increase brand awareness, engagement and participation with the LDNS Lab’s academic programs, events and initiatives, positively portraying the LDNS Lab and the work of its faculty, staff, students and alumni. This position serves as a subject matter expert on social media topics and trends, ensures best practices, makes recommendations for embedding social media into other marketing, communications and events efforts, and coordinates across the LDNS Lab and university to determine appropriate communication using social media. This position will also assist with copy writing and review for marketing of college events through email and web channels.
Candidates who move to the final interview round will be asked to provide work samples that demonstrate previous experience with social media and writing.

Essential Duties

  • Manages executive-level calendars.
  • Coordinates and arranges the executive travel and complete expense reports using Concur.
  • Develops brand-specific content for posts and campaigns that promote the mission of the LDNS Lab.
  • Maintains active presence on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and other social media platforms as relevant.
  • Monitors LDNS Lab’s social media accounts.
  • Communicates issues shared on social media with supervisor and works to resolve as directed.
  • Responds to messages and inquiries received through social media channels with accurate information.
  • Uses social media monitoring tools and analyzes data to provide reports on social media performance.
  • Develops best practices, makes recommendations and provides resources to faculty, staff and students on use of social media.
  • Researches relevant social media content, keeps up to date with social media trends and applies knowledge to LDNS Lab’s social media presence.
  • Builds relationships with faculty, staff, students and others on ASU campus to extend local, national and global reach of the LDNS Lab.
  • Attends LDNS Lab and student events as needed to capture images and video for social media.
  • Recruits faculty, staff and students to participate in social media campaigns and communicates necessary documentation and resources for participation.
  • Coordinates LDNS Lab newsletter with student worker(s) for coverage of college events and completion of tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND two years administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Six years of progressively responsible administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Experience in a fast-paced, collaborative team-based work environment.
  • Evidence of strategic thinking.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.
  • Experience planning and maintaining a regular editorial calendar and pitching social media campaigns to supervisors.
  • Experience with social media management systems such as Hootsuite.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of AP style, grammar and spelling.
  • Experience taking and editing photos.
  • Ability to translate complicated or technical subjects into common language.
  • Experience reviewing and editing the written and graphic design work of others.
  • Knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications and/or Canvas is a plus.
  • Experience with video production is a plus.
  • Evidence of commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives is a plus.

Working Environment

  • This position is eligible for Hybrid work.
  • This position reports directly to the senior director of military and strategic initiatives in the Office of University Affairs and can be remote majority of the time. However, the successful candidate will be required to occasionally travel to the ASU Washington Center to assist with events or meetings.
